We’re halfway through this month’s 30 x 30 challenge and I’d love to know how it’s going. For those of you who are participating: have you been able to put in 30 minutes a day? Or have you averaged 30 minutes a day? Even if you haven’t, have you found the challenge helpful?
I had said that I was going to use my 30 x 30 challenge this month to focus on blogging. And then I completely forgot about that commitment. It doesn’t help that I was on a trip to New York with my college pals most of last week. But the fact is I have not posted on any of my blogs this month! The good news is that I’ve now reminded myself of this commitment and I can start again.
I hope to be able to tell you at the end of the month that I’ve posted at least twice on each of my three blogs. (This post counts!) My hope is to spend at least a half hour a day each weekday in the next two weeks on blogging. I’ll most likely take Thanksgiving and the day after off.
So what about you? There’s no report you can make that would be less embarrassing than the one I just made. Please let me know how it’s going!

This was not a good start for me. I only had about 4 hours of genealogy time. As I had previously mentioned, my brother passed away late last month, so I spent my time writing up an item for my nephew and niece on growing up with their father. My wife has been in the hospital, so I have not had much time to do any other research time. She is home now, so maybe the next two weeks will be better. I have a log book (Naval Continuous Service Certificate) for my dad that covers his Naval service from 1929 to 1949 and his Naval personal records for 1949 to 1952. For the next two weeks, I hope to extract and transcribe his various duty stations and ships he served on.
I’m sorry your wife has been ill, Jerry, and glad that she’s home. Please don’t forget to take time out to take care of yourself! That can be as important (if not more) than doing genealogy research.
What a difference a beautifully organized space can make! First I consolidated all my cheat sheets for data entry into Legacy into one easy to use document, then I sorted the papers in the Family Folder I had been working on into sub-categories. The oh so tedious data entry goes so much more smoothly and quickly in my “new” office, which makes it so rewarding that I’ve done something very day, averaging much more than 30 minutes a day.
I’m so happy for you, Connie! It’s so trew that one can be so much more productive (and happy) in an organized space. I’m so glad your data entry is going smoothly and quickly!
Ouf – it’s hard yakka but paying dividends for my course I’m taking at the moment. Here’s my latest update. https://familytreefrog.blogspot.com/2025/11/books-wonderful-booksand-cheap-as.html
Thanks for sharing the link to your latest blog post, Alex. I enjoyed reading it! (P.S. My brother and his family live in Queensland, so I always love hearing from Aussie readers.)
