30 x 30 challenge: mid-month check-in

January 15, 2025 By Janine Adams 14 Comments

It’s the 15th of the month! How’s your 30 x 30 challenge going? I was so pleased with the challenge’s participation this month and hope that it’s going well for you. Please let us know in the comments whether you’ve been able to get some time in and whether the challenge has been beneficial.

I haven’t actually been putting much time in on my genealogy organizing but I have been getting some small organizing tasks done around my apartment, which feels very good. (I blogged about them on my organizing blog…you can check those posts out here, if you’d like.)

I look forward to reading about your progress!

So far I have been able to do 30 minutes EVERY day. I have great hopes for organizing my genealogy papers in my work room. I’ve made so much progress so far. Thank you for proposing 30 x 30.

I’m a bit behind on minutes, but have broken my “clean up my software” task into one generation per month this year and I’m making progress on Generation 7 this month.

How did it get to be January 15th already? The piles and to-do list are still untouched.

It’s not too late to start, Karen! Maybe you can pick just one thing to do tomorrow to get the ball rolling.

The hard (okay easy but booooring!) part is done! Organized all my files, eliminated duplications and saved them all in 2 places. ( web and ext hard drive) Also did some reading and now, which brick wall do I want to break down?

Enjoy those brick walls, Janet! You’ve earned that opportunity…and having organized files will make it easier to break down the walls.

So far I have met the goal of 30 minutes per day. Still struggling documenting my ancestors in the 1790 – 1810 census. I have completed the 1810 census and I am now tackling the 1800 census. It has been a hit and miss on finding my ancestors.

Sitting down everyday at the computer has allowed me to fill out 2 applications for a lineage society. I just needed to sit and fill them out and double check the documents I needed. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you have a designated time to work toward a goal! Thanks for hosting this! And now for the rest of the month….

I’ve spent an average of 1.5 hr daily on research, education or organizing my genealogy. I’ll be participating in Family Locket’s Research Like Pro 14-day Challenge starting next week and have been focusing on “pre-challenge” activities.

about me

I'm Janine Adams, a professional organizer and a genealogy enthusiast. I love doing family history research, but I find it's very easy for me to get overwhelmed and not know where to turn next. So I'm working hard to stay organized and feel in control as I grow my family tree.

In this blog, I share my discoveries and explorations, along with my organizing challenges (and solutions). I hope by sharing what I learn along the way I'll be able to help you stay focused and have fun while you do your research, too.
