We’ve passed the mid-point of our 30 x 30 challenge. How is it going?
I’ve been pleased with my ability to remember to do research and then actually do it this month. I have missed three days of the past 16 and I’ve averaged 32 minutes a day, so I’m track. Two of the 13 research sessions were spent taking webinars. One was watching Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr. And one was helping a friend with her genealogy and giving her a bit of a tutorial about Ancestry and Family Search. So it wasn’t all research on my family.
As I mentioned last week, I’ve been good about logging my research in my simple Evernote research log, thanks largely to my putting a star in my spreadsheet every time I did it.
I go to Washington state tomorrow to settle my dad’s estate. I’m hopeful that won’t get in the way of daily research, though I might cut myself a little slack since I have a 12-hour trip door to door and my first flight leaves at 5:50 a.m.
I’m interested to hear how it’s going for you. Please let me know in the comments!

Janine, You are off to a good start. Yes, give yourself some slack tomorrow and the next day. I have never had to deal with what you are dealing with now, but it sounds like it will be an emotional day.
I had some days where I couldn’t get to genealogy but then I had two Saturdays where I had extra time to do some reading and watching webinars. I found a line to focus on and some new ideas for sources to search. I went to agenealogy meeting that had it’s initial meeting on Saturday. The joy of researching and helping others on Saturday was just life-giving to me. The genealogy research block and burnout seems to have lifted.

Mary, I’m so happy your block and burnout have lifted!! That’s fantastic. Sounds like you’ve had a great genealogy month. Keep it going!

I’m doing a bit better than expected with the narrative that I’m writing, generally spending more than half an hour each day. Stating the scope of it has helped me to move forward instead of floundering with a project that was too big to start.

I’m glad it’s going to well, Marian! So smart to figure out a scope when the project is huge. I hope the month continues to go well!

I am doing okay, I have missed a day here and there, but I think I am on track to average 30mins a day. Though my actual time I am logging is going well, I am not making much headway in breaking my brick wall, though I am managing to rule some people out, and I do have some next steps and some documents to look at when I manage to get to the National Archives in Wellington as they are not indexed and paper copies only, not online.
Janine, I hope all goes well for you (went well for you) in Washington.
