Join me for August 2021 30 x 30 challenge?

July 30, 2021 By Janine Adams 45 Comments

Oh my goodness, do I need a 30 x 30 challenge. After a dismal June challenge, my research did not pick up pace in July. So I’m declaring a 30 x 30 challenge for August 2021. During this coming month my goal is to spend 30 minutes a day for 30 days in a row doing genealogy research. If I average 30 minutes, that will be good enough. (I keep a spreadsheet that calculates my average.)

I find that daily research is so beneficial–it keeps my ancestors top of mind and makes it so much easier to dive right in. When I don’t have a challenge going, unfortunately, sometimes genealogy plummets on my priority list. So I’m thrilled to rev up again.

Would you care to join me? If so, please say so in the comments. Feel free to share what you intend to work on (genealogy research, genealogy organizing, a specific project or goal). About halfway through the month, I’ll do an update post and invite you to let everyone know how it’s going for you.

This is the boost I need!

I’m in! Vacation, gardening and other obligations have made me put genealogy on the back burner lately. I need this to help get back into the habit of a little genealogy everyday. Z

    Hi Janine,

    I’m In!

Excellent potential to discover a few Revolutionary War Patriots in my maternal grandmother’s lineage. This focused research continues in August. Bring on this 30×30 Challenge

I am in! Besides moving and my business and my part-time job at The Container Store, I am super busy in August. I won’t have access to the Internet a couple of days during my move this weekend, but I will make them up. I have set a recurring appointment on Google Calendar to do my 30×30 (for me, 31) since I am going to put each of my first 31 ancestors on my Ahnentafel chart into Twile.com this month. Thanks for the challenge. Hope we will do another one in October during Family History Month!

How exciting that you’re moving, Christy! And congrats on your p/t position at TCS. I understand that it is a great place to work! I’m impressed that you’re adding daily research to your busy August. But this challenge is a good way to get it done. I think you can count on another one in October. Good luck with everything this month!

I’m in as well. So many pleasant disruptions this summer, it is time for me to refocus. I have a box of my parent’s and grandparent’s letters and military documents that I’ve chosen to begin on, digitizing and making certain each one has a proper name and a folder to call home, for this August 30 x 30. I’m looking forward to beginning, thanks for the inspiration Janine!

Definitely! After moving house in June, and then spending July preparing to move office buildings I got out of the habit of daily research, so this will be a good way to get myself back on track with daily research. It also ties in nicely as I am trying bullet journaling, something I have heard a lot about but never tried. I am excited for August!

I am in. It is funny that August 1 is on a Sunday. I usually give my desk top a day of rest on Sundays. I still use my IPAD on Sundays, so I still do some research. Also, I use Sundays to clean my desk. For August I plan to concentrate on one of my wife’s sisters family. One of the nephews is interested in genealogy.

I’m in. I am trying to digitize (one year at a time – starting with 2006) the best of my personal paper photographs to put on my computer hard drive and into my Forever account. And … share my Forever account information with my 3 adult daughters and husband!

I agree I’ve been busy with garden and finally doing things with children and grandchildren again! But now August is a slower month in the garden and all the reunions/travel are done for a month.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the challenge, Beverly! It’s very simple. Just commit to doing 30 minutes of genealogy research a day for 30 days and let us know in the mid-month update in at the end of the month how it went. No bells and whistles here. But I find it very powerful!

about me

I'm Janine Adams, a professional organizer and a genealogy enthusiast. I love doing family history research, but I find it's very easy for me to get overwhelmed and not know where to turn next. So I'm working hard to stay organized and feel in control as I grow my family tree.

In this blog, I share my discoveries and explorations, along with my organizing challenges (and solutions). I hope by sharing what I learn along the way I'll be able to help you stay focused and have fun while you do your research, too.
