It’s the last day of the month (and the quarter!) and this month’s 30 x 30 challenge ends today. Time to check in and let us know how it went.
For me, it wasn’t the greatest month for genealogy research. I did attend the Spring Seminar sponsored by the Midwest Genealogy Center. Gena Philibert-Ortega gave four terrific talks. So I got to log essentially seven hours of learning, which helped my average a lot. Otherwise, I researched a handful of days.
But I’m glad I did the challenge, because it meant that genealogy research didn’t fall off my radar. I’m working on a New Thing that isn’t genealogy related. But I promise to tell you about it soon, because it might interest you. I’ve been prioritizing that over genealogy research at the moment.
How about you? If you participated in the challenge, how did it go? Even if you didn’t meet the goal of 30 minutes of research for 30 days this month, was participating in the challenge helpful? Please let us know in the comments!
Billy Edward Huffman says
Been doing great the first quarter of the year. Cleaning up my file make sure I have sources and citations information I already have.
Janine Adams says
That’s great, Billy!
Cheri Weakley says
There’s nothing more precious than spending quality time with my two-year-old grandson. New adventures every day. I capture highlights in my Day One Journal. Sneaking weekend snippets of time with my ancestors.
Janine Adams says
I love that you’re capturing highlights of your time with your grandson, Cheri! I’d say your priorities are good ones!
Zenda says
I’ve found writing my family narratives pretty motivating and look forward to my ‘genealogy time’ lately! Writing and filling in holes in the research has kept me mostly on track this month. We’re expecting our second grandbaby any day now so I’m not sure April will be as productive genealogy-speaking. I’m looking forward to what you have to share about your ‘new thing!’
Janine Adams says
Zenda, congratulations on your success in March! How exciting that you’re going to have a grandbaby soon! Enjoy. I’ll share my New Thing soon!
Janet says
Life got away from me and rolled down the hill faster than a locomotive. ( showing my age there!)
Visits to family and friends and bridge tournaments took precedence, in spite of Roots tech inspiration. But there’s always next time. Looking forward to that.
Janine Adams says
Janet, thanks for sharing…I have many months where other things take priority over genealogy research and that’s okay. I’ll probably do another 30 x 30 in May or June!
Cheryl Schulte says
I did manage to spend some time every day processing media that I had on an external hard drive; photos and other media that I had received over the years from other family members. I managed to process way more items than I had hoped so I was pleased about that. Today, though, I came across another external hard drive with an additional 775 media items on them. Whoa, now my amount to complete has really grown! I am happy with what I was able to accomplish though. Thanks for doing this challenge.
Janine Adams says
Wow, Cheryl! Congratulations on your success in March. And on your discovery of more media items! As overwhelming as that might feel, it’s a potential treasure trove.
Marian says
I’ve done better in the second half of the month than in the first, but it hasn’t been easy to make myself get started each day. The siren song of new research keeps pulling me away from finishing up that narrative.yvt9sbjw34@liamekaens.com
Janine Adams says
New research is hard to resist, isn’t it, Marian! Glad to hear you had a good second half of the month.
Trisha says
This month was so so. I had some good spurts of several hours to some with 10 minutes. Also had grandkids for their spring break. Loved every minute. Take care and may we all keep trying to fit genealogy into our lives.
Janine Adams says
Knowing what’s important (and grandkids are definitely important!) is such a great way to figure our your priorities. It sounds like yours are excellent, Trisha!
