October 30 x 30 wrap up

October 30, 2020 By Janine Adams 10 Comments

Another 30 x 30 challenge is over! Today marks Day 30. Please share know how it went for you!

I had a great month. I managed to research every day except one. And, according to my spreadsheet, I averaged 30 minutes 12 seconds a day. Some research sessions were longer, some were shorter, but most were around 30 minutes.

My goal for this challenge was to eliminate the backlog of files that had accumulated. I did it! That felt great. However, I discovered other backlog folders that I don’t remember creating. They were filed in individual surname folders. So my backlog is not gone completely. But I did process 77 backlogged documents this month and I downloaded and processed 19 more. That feels very productive and I’m pleased as punch.

I hope to continue with daily research in November, though with the absence of a 30 x 30 challenge it’s less of a sure thing. I’m planning to do another challenge in January.

Your turn: If you participated in the challenge, how did it go? Did the challenge help you get more done? And did you have some fun? I hope so!

I had a fairly successful month. I digitized more documents, mainly for my Magna Charta lineage. After finding a relative’s email from literally 20 years ago (2000) listing our lineage back to the Surety Baron and how he and I connected, I’ve been working toward membership. I already have the necessary documents, I just needed them digitized. DONE!

That’s great, Zenda! It feels so good to cross stuff off your list. Congrats on your great month!

Despite several days of nothing being ill, I still managed to average a respectable 25mins per day, thanks to deciding to work on it on my 1hr (each way) commute three times a week. I regrettably did not manage to achieve my goal with respect to finding specific information on one particular ancestor though I had a couple of small accidental wins by finding out about some children I didn’t even know existed. I will have to continue more frustrating sessions going through parish records, but I am sure in the end it will be worth it.

As the UK looks to be heading into a second full lockdown I am disappointed I may not be able to have my visit to the Hampshire Archives I was planning in November, however, I will just continue to add to the list of what I need to know for when I can finally get there.

Congratulations on your more-than-respectable average, Missy! While it’s disappointing that research trips have to be canceled these days, you’re smart to keep adding to the list for future trips.

I’ve been editing/confirming all the citations in the family history I’ve written.. I have a few pages left, but in a month reviewed 320 pages and all the corresponding citations. whew! there are next steps but this one I was dreading – doing 10 pages a day +/- was a real help. Thanks for these 30 x 30 – most of those days I spent a few hours, but I knew that would be the case. Thank you Covid for ‘at home’ time.

320 pages! Wow! Congratulations on that amazing effort. I’m so glad that the 30 x 30 challenge was helpful!

Thanks so much for the challenge. I worked on my RLP eCourse every day and made great headway. Hopefully I will complete it by Dec 31 and then work on the next generation.

I failed to mention that I averaged 2 hours 25 minutes daily for the 30 days. (COVID-19 isolation has some advantages.)
