Time for a 30 x 30 check in!

August 16, 2019 By Janine Adams 13 Comments

It’s the middle of August already! How’s your 30 x 30 challenge going? If you’re participating in the challenge, pleaseĀ  comment below and let us know how it’s going!

I’ll start. I have done at least 30 minutes of research all but three days. I had some oral surgery this week and just wasn’t up for it afterward. And the next day I had to lead an organizing team for eight hours and had no energy afterward for anything. And I just plain forgot one day. The good news is that I researched more than 30 minutes enough days to make up for that deficit. So once I get back on track today, I should have no trouble reaching my goal of an average of 30 minutes a day for 30 days.

How about you? Has the challenge been helpful? Have you had your ups and downs like me? Remember, any effort is good!

Hope your oral surgery is healing. The first of the month I missed a few days but made up for it by attending a conference where the speaker was Thomas Jones. Enjoyed the conference. I have pretty much been able to stay on tract on doing my 30 minutes a day. One thing I did get accomplished was to reprioritize my goals for 2019 and My To Do List. Some things I just not going to get done for 2019. I enjoy these 30 minute challenges.

I have no idea whether I have accomplished the equivalent of 30 minutes per day – I know I have missed several days but done longer sessions on several days also. But your 30 x 30 challenges do remind me to try to make time for my own family history work. So thank you and keep them coming.

Some days it is 30 minutes. Some days it is more than 30 minutes. Some days it just doesn’t happen. Overall it seems to average out.

I have been looking at 5th – 8th cousin DNA matches with similar surnames and similar residences. As a result, after cross referencing with documents and newspaper articles, I was able to go back one more generation and prove a family connection that was spoken of over 50 years.

I have been doing my 30 minutes religiously. Occasionally I go an extra 5 or 10 minutes, but I try to keep it at 30 so I don’t get overwhelmed. Glad you’re doing a 30×30 Challenge, Janine. When is the next one? Hopefully we can squeeze in another one before the holidays come!

Congrats, Christy! I promise another 30 x 30 before the end of the year. Perhaps October.

Great! Last night was the first day I missed my 30 minutes because I was too tired. So I got up early this morning to get my 30×30 session in. Still need to do today’s later. I am not letting myself off the hook!

Plugging along and have been able to push a line back 3 more generations! I would say very successful 17 days so far. I am heading out to Salt Lake City, I may skip a day, but will certainly make up the time in the library.

about me

I'm Janine Adams, a professional organizer and a genealogy enthusiast. I love doing family history research, but I find it's very easy for me to get overwhelmed and not know where to turn next. So I'm working hard to stay organized and feel in control as I grow my family tree.

In this blog, I share my discoveries and explorations, along with my organizing challenges (and solutions). I hope by sharing what I learn along the way I'll be able to help you stay focused and have fun while you do your research, too.
