What was your favorite RootsTech session?

March 12, 2025 By Janine Adams 15 Comments

RootsTech was last weekend and I wasn’t able to attend. But many of the sessions are still available online.

So help me narrow down what to watch by letting me know your favorite session. Even if it’s not one that’s available online, I’m still interested in hearing about it.

Please tell everyone your favorite session in the comments. What about it did you love? Content? Speaker? Both? Thanks in advance!

The intro To AI was fascinating. Even though I will probably never advance into using it more, I found the basic understanding of it to be most interesting not just for genealogy but for the multitude of other places it is showing up in the world! The presenter was excellent !

Thanks for sharing, Wilma! It looks like there are a few sessions on AI, do you remember the name of the presenter? Did you watch it in-person or online?

The session on transcribing documents using AI had more takeaways than any session I watched. It was extremely informative.

That’s quite an endorsement, Don! Was it this one presented by Nicole Dyer? https://www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/session/ai-powered-transcription-of-handwritten-documents-tools-and-techniques

I only watched a few of the presentations. I enjoyed the panel discussion on AI. Not sure about using AI. I tried to watch the presentation on protecting your online tree. About 5 minutes into the presentation, another presentation overrode the one I was watching. The new presentation appeared to be religious in nature. Not sure what happened.

It’s unfortunate that there was a glitch, Jerry. If you were watching it live, I wonder if you can now watch that presentation on demand.

Alien Files Boot Camo by Alec Ferretti and Ship Manifests: An In-Depth Look by Rich Venezia were my favorites.

Thank you for posing this question! I wasn’t able to watch it live so have been thinking the same thing! So many options, so little time!

about me

I'm Janine Adams, a professional organizer and a genealogy enthusiast. I love doing family history research, but I find it's very easy for me to get overwhelmed and not know where to turn next. So I'm working hard to stay organized and feel in control as I grow my family tree.

In this blog, I share my discoveries and explorations, along with my organizing challenges (and solutions). I hope by sharing what I learn along the way I'll be able to help you stay focused and have fun while you do your research, too.
