I’m a guest on the most recent episode of Genealogy Happy Hour, published today. I had a great time talking with with hosts Amy Gabrill Lay and Penny Burke Bonawitz about organizing digital files in genealogy research (a favorite topic of mine!).
Genealogy Happy Hour is a fun monthly “genealogy podcast with two blondes and a bottle,” to quote its tagline. It’s mostly about genealogy and a little bit about wine. These are two of my favorite things to talk about (and participate in), so I jumped at the chance to talk with these fun folks when they invited me!
You can listen to Episode 38 here. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed doing it!

Janine,
Congratulations on an excellent podcast. I listened to it this morning and gleaned many good ideas from it. I also use a file naming protocol that is very similar to yours. Where you would write it “1940 U.S. census – Sarah Ahern – Kansas City, Mo.” I write “1940 census of the Sarah AHERN Household in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri.” [I assume a census is U.S. Federal unless I specifically state is it Irish or Iowa or whatever.] I really enjoyed listening to your episode and can’t wait to start listening to “Getting to Good Enough” since I have a tendency to be a perfectionist and thus have become an EXPERT procrastinator! I love the title of Podcast 1: “Done Is Better than Perfect.” One thing I would recommend on that site is a clickable Table of Contents because it is frustrating to have to keep clicking on Older Posts and scrolling down to go back to the beginning podcasts.

I’m glad you liked the Genealogy Happy Hour episode, Christy, and I’m delighted you’ll start listening to Getting to Good Enough. And thanks for the suggestion–we’ve been talking about making some improvements to the GTGE website, including putting a clickable index there, we just haven’t prioritized it. So I appreciate the reminder!
