Organizing interview on Amy Johnson Crow’s blog

March 3, 2017 By Janine Adams 4 Comments

When I was at RootsTech, I had the honor of being interviewed by professional genealogist and blogger Amy Johnson Crow. Amy is a terrific blogger (and interviewer!). I really enjoyed talking with her.

Amy interviewed me in the Media Hub Booth, a fancy sound-proof booth smack in the middle of the Expo. Professional technicians recorded the video, so the quality is terrific.

I thought you might enjoy the interview.

Please check out Amy’s blog, if you’re not already reading it. She always shares great information and insights!

Professional organizers talk family history

October 14, 2015 By Janine Adams 6 Comments

As a professional organizer who blogs (in addition writing here, I have a blog at my business’s Peace of Mind Organizing website), I occasionally  participate in the monthly Professional Organizers Blog Carnival. Each month organizing bloggers are asked to submit a single post that matches that month’s theme.

I was delighted to see that the theme for October is Family History. My biggest challenge was to decide which blog post to submit! I ended up submitting one from my organizing website, Tracing my roots: Why I love genealogy research.

The Blog Carnival was published today and it occurred to me that readers of Organize Your Family History might enjoy perusing the 14 family-history-related blog posts in the Carnival. My organizing colleagues write great stuff.

So here’s the link: Family History – Professional Organizers Blog Carnival.

Enjoy!

Readers weigh in on blog-reading tools

August 21, 2014 By Janine Adams Leave a Comment

Feedly is popular among genealogy blog readersEarlier this month, I solicited your suggestions for blog-reading tools. I was interested in hearing how you keep up with the various blogs you read. I was thrilled to receive about a dozen comments with suggestions. As promised, I’m compiling them here for easy reference.

Feedly was the blog reader of choice for five commenters. Two of those were Thomas MacEntee and Jana Last, whose blogs highlight other genealogy blogs, use Feedly. If Feedly is good enough for these blog power-readers, I think it’s probably good enough for me. I’ve just downloaded it and am going to give it a go. So far, set up has been intuitive and easy!

Here are the other suggestions (each of which were mentioned once), in case you want to try any of them:

  • Netvibes
  • Bloglovin‘
  • igHome
  • Evernote
  • Blog reader built into Internet Explorer
  • Blogspot/Blogger dashboard
  • RSS feed in email
  • Blogroll list on own blog

Several people mentioned that they formerly used and like Google Reader. Alas, Google, in its infinite wisdom, discontinued that service last year.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share information for this post!

about me

I'm Janine Adams, a professional organizer and a genealogy enthusiast. I love doing family history research, but I find it's very easy for me to get overwhelmed and not know where to turn next. So I'm working hard to stay organized and feel in control as I grow my family tree.

In this blog, I share my discoveries and explorations, along with my organizing challenges (and solutions). I hope by sharing what I learn along the way I'll be able to help you stay focused and have fun while you do your research, too.
